"We climbed the Helderberg, West Peak starting at Helderberg farm. It was quite a cool morning with mist covering Helderberg when we started climbing. The wind was blowing quite hard on the north side of the mountain but luckily most of the hike is on the south side. The cool weather made it a very nice hike. It is a beautiful time of the year to hike, because we had good rains so the fynbos were lush and we saw bountiful Proteas throughout our climb especially the last kilometer before you summit West Peak is just beautiful. We did not have much of a view when we sumitted because of the thick mist, but when we started making our way back the strong wind did start clearing out the lower mist/clouds which gave us spectacular views of Strand, Stellenbosch and False Bay. We took the 4x4 road on our way back, and made a slight "detour" when walking back to Helderberg Farm, but overall it is fairly easy to find the right paths. " — schalkburger • Jun 20, 2020
"Beautiful climb up West Peak on to Helderberg Dome. Very cloudy in the morning but cleared up as we summited West Peak. The wind picked up to hassle force at mid day (but there was a storm on its way that evening) the fynbos is old and dense at the moment, especially up the West Peak Ridge. "We left Helderberg Farm at 9am and traversed their maze of trails to the summit, then on to the Dome, then back through Helderberg Reserve. 23km total and at the end we found ourselves locked in, so over the fence we went at spot where the razor wire was missing. Thankfully Ting-Ru is a trooper!" — jak5280 • Sep 23, 2018
"We did not have a lot of time, so we started the hike at 8am from the Helderberg Farm trail. Made our way up to the signal towers and from there took the route up to the summit. We dashed back down and returned in 2.5hours. Very steep up and down, very beautiful at the top!" — Willowskid08 • Jul 7, 2018
